The Bridge of Sighs is an iconic landmark in Venice, known for its unique architecture and intriguing history. Built in the early 17th century, this enclosed bridge connects the Doge's Palace to the prison cells, serving as a passage for prisoners who would take their last glimpse of the beautiful city before facing their sentences. The name 'Bridge of Sighs' is derived from the notion that these prisoners would sigh at the sight of Venice, a city they would miss as they were led to their confinement. The bridge is made of beautiful white limestone and features elegant barred windows that overlook the serene waters below. Visitors to the Bridge of Sighs are often captivated by its romantic yet melancholic aura.
